Tovarna vozil in toplotne tehnike Boris Kidrič Maribor - TVT Kidrič

Do prve svetovne vojne so delavnice zaposlovale okrog 1200 ljudi.

The factory of vehicles and heating technology TVT Boris Kidrič Maribor developed from the factory of railway vehicles Boris Kidrič Maribor – a successor of the Southern Railway Workshops, established in 1863. Since Maribor represented the geographical centre of the Souther Railway line, the main facility for maintenance and repair of trains on this railway line was established here. Before World War I, these workshops provided work for 1200 workers. In 1924, the Southern Railways were taken over by the Yugoslav Railways. During World War II, 30 percent of workshop facilities were destroyed. In 1947, the factory was reorganised into an independent labour organisation under administrative and operative control of the Main Railway Agency in Belgrade. In 1950, the management of the company was transferred back to the company, although the company remained under direct control of the Yugoslav Railways. Development and renewal of the company intensified in 1952, when the workshops were transformed into an independent labour organisation by the name Delavnica železniških vozil Boris Kidrič (Rail Vehicles Workshop Boris Kidrič). In 1958 the name of the company was changed into Tovarna železniških vozil Boris Kidrič, Maribor (Rail Vehicle Factory Boris Kidrič, Maribor). The company’s activity did not only include maintenance and repair of railway vehicles, but also the restoration of old and the production of new railway products like steam boilers, two-axel and four-axel railway cars, dining cars and railroad tank cars, etc. After 1960, they started building a modern factory for the manufacturing of railroad vehicles. The production programme also spread on hot-water boilers for central heating. In 1970, the company merged with TAM due to excellent and frequent cooperation of both companies. In 1977, the company changed its name to TVT Boris Kidrič (Factory of Vehicles and Heating Technology Boris Kidrič), Maribor. Later, the company’s name was changed into TVT Maribor (Factory of Vehicles and Heating Technology Maribor).
