Merinka - tekstilna tovarna Tabor, Maribor

Tekstilna tovarna Tabor Maribor je nasledila tradicijo nekdanje Predilnice in tkalnice Maribor. Podjetje sta ustanovila Edvard Doctor in njegov zet Ernest Zucker leta 1922. Beograd, tvornica Maribor. Večino delnic je imel Ernest Zucker. Edvard Doctor in Ernest Zucker sta tovarno začela graditi že eta 1922, ko sta kupila parcelo, imenovano »Križni dvor«, na desni obali Drave zraven Koroškega kolodvora. Leta 1930 je bila zgrajena apretura in istega leta barvarna. Predilnico so začeli graditi leta 1928.

Leta 1962 sta se združili Predilnica in tkalnica Maribor in Merinka, industrija volnenih tkanin Maribor v skupno podjetje PTM Merinka, industrija modnih tkanin Maribor. Delovna organizacija Tovarna tekstilnega blaga Tabor je zajemala tozde Proizvodnja preje, Proizvodnja metražnega blaga in Delovno skupnost Tovarne tekstilnega blaga Tabor.

Merinka - Textile factory Tabor, Maribor

The textile factory Tabor, Maribor has inherited the tradition of the former Maribor Spinning and Weaving Mills (Predilnica in tkalnica Maribor). The company was founded by Edvard Doctor and his son-in-law Ernest Zucker in 1922. Doctor and Zucker have founded a trading company, which was co-owned by Olga Doctor, Johann Selinger and Bertol Löubeer. After the death of Edvard Doctor in 1926, his wife Olga, who lived in Vienna, took over his interest in the company. In 1939, the joint-stock company Belgrade Spinning and Weaving Mills, Maribor Factory took over the company. The majority of shares were owned by Ernest Zucker. Edvard Doctor and Ernest Zucker began building the company in 1922, when they bought the parcel on the right bank of the River Drava next to the railway station in Studenci (Koroški kolodvor). In 1930, they built a dressing and a painting facility. The construction of the mill began in 1928.

During the occupation of World War II, the occupier took away some of the company’s machinery and the company stopped the production in 1943. The dressing facility was destroyed during heavy bombing in 1945. The reconstruction of the factory started immediately after the liberation, while the government of the People’s Republic of Slovenia decided to include the Zora knitting factory, located in immediate proximity of the Maribor Spinning and Weaving Mills (PTM), into PTM. In 1962, PTM merged with Merinka, the Maribor Woollen Industries Company, into PTM Merinka, Maribor Fashionable Fabrics Industry. Since 1977, the company was redesigned into an independent labour organisation within the Composite Organization of Associated Labour SOZD MTT. The company's main activity was the manufacturing of all kinds of yarns, fabrics and the confectioning of textile fabric. The Composite Organisation of Associated Labour (SOZD) Tabor Textile Factory included the following Basic Organisations of Associated Labour (TOZDs): Yarn Production, Production of Piece Goods and a Labour Community of the Tabor Textile Factory.

In 1991 the company was reorganised into a state-owned company – Textile Factory Tabor, Maribor. The company was declared insolvent in the beginning of 2004.
